Buying a Notebook Computer for the Office

A few years ago, the biggest rave in office equipment was a laptop.

Just about any modern-day office was equipped with a few laptops, especially if they had salesmen on the go.  Today’s newest gadget is the notebook computer, which is quickly making its mark in the office environment.

The notebook computer is an amazing device that basically duplicates the laptop computer, but just on a smaller scale.  These convenient computers come with all the whistles and bells that you would normally need to complete your work.  Most come equipped with built-in WIFI so you can connect even while working on the train.  They also have microphones and webcams, as well as multiple USB ports in case you want to plug in other devices such as a printer or a camera.  Many also are equipped with CD/DVD drives for your added convenience.

If you’re worried that such a small machine can have enough power to get the job done, don’t be.  Today’s notebooks can come equipped with as much as 4 GB memory, enough for almost any type of job.  And as far as battery life, it’s not much shorter than a regular laptop (about two hours).  If you’re in the car a lot, you can easily recharge the notebook with a car charger.  Or purchase a spare battery for those longer restaurant meetings.

As far as portability, nothing beats the notebook computer.  With sizes ranging from devices that can fit easily fit in your hand to just a little smaller than a laptop, the notebook is the ideal solution for those on the go.  And whereas a laptop can get pretty heavy when hauling it from place to place, the notebook is not much heavier than a hardback book.  It can also easily fit in a medium sized purse or in any backpack.

One area, however, where notebooks fall short is if you need to do a lot of high quality graphics or if you like to play lots of video games.  But overall, these powerful and convenient devices can meet the challenge.  And since prices are now competitive with laptops, there’s no reason why an office should not consider these handy devices as part of the office environment.
