Office Equipment Goes Green

While people are growing environmentally conscious, companies are working diligently on designing office equipment that will work in sync with this new awareness.

Many of these companies have come up with items that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, that are more energy efficient and that will help with recycling efforts.  After all, a vast number of firms have made the decision to go green.

Just like electronic records management revolutionized the way we store data, green office equipment is changing the workplace.  If you recall, the newly developed records management programs took information retrieval to a new level, offering cost cutting features.  You can actually say that electronic records management changed the industry.  And so have the latest office tools; they work faster and are good for the environment, while helping lower expenses.

Let’s take, for instance, the new copiers; they’re fitted with solid ink technology that comes in the form of sticks and are toxin-free.  These machines are easy to operate and produce excellent quality prints while reducing the impact on the environment; furthermore they have no ink cartridges and so there’s less waste going into the landfills.

Many firms have also begun to make their computers more energy efficient by using LCD monitors.  These consume 75% less energy than the older models.  In addition, manufacturers have integrated energy-management programs, not just for the computers but for the printers and copiers as well.  This means that they save on wattage while they’re not in operation, and you’re saving even more money on your records management system.

And if you’re among the millions of people who have to travel to business or sales meetings, it’s time to reduce your ecological footprint; after all, everyone is doing their best to change their habits.  So rather than drive from one side of town to the other, or send out a sales team to visit potential buyers, opt for the high tech advances in communications solutions.  The newer ones allow you to conduct three-way conferences, to share screens, to video-conference and take calls from clients even if you’re on your way back from the golf course.

Going green is not a new fad.  Businesses of all sizes are doing it.  Many people thought that the new records management programs were a passing thing; but like records management, green office equipment is here to stay.  So don’t be left behind.
